This article applies to a Board 1.0 which will be replaced by Board 2.0 starting with BigPicture version 7.11.
All your date will be automatically migrated to the new Board when the app is updated.
This can be also configured and change in the Program's configuration:
Feature | Manual | Small Team | Large Team |
---|---|---|---|
JIRA Scrum Boards sync | |||
Single Sprint per column, up to 7 on screen (screen width greater than 2400 pixels is required) | |||
Multiple Sprints per column |
Manual mode
In this mode the synchronization of the Iteration with Jira is disabled.
Recommended for playing around and non-agile projects with pre-defined work that only needs to be manually updated from time to time.
Small Team mode
This mode synchronises bi-directionally with JIRA Sprints. This means that moving your tasks around will change their Sprints, and changing Sprints will affect the Roadmap.
It is recommended for Agile teams who use a single Board for everyone or the vast majority of people, as each Cadence represents only a single Sprint. In this mode, the Roadmap is essentially a multi-Sprint view of a single board with enhanced capabilities (timeline, issue links, Cadence backlogs).
All Teams share a single (master) Board in this mode.
Large Team mode
Available only in the Enterprise edition of BigPicture.
In this mode the Iterations specified in the Agile Schedule sync with JIRA Sprints and is Recommended for adopters of The Scaled Agile Framework®.
Each team can use their own Board, and Iterations roll up the work of all teams originating from multiple Sprints.
Great for large-scale companies as it provides the BigPicture of all the Agile things on a single screen.

Hi,
we upgrade from 5.0.4 to 6.0.6 - we use the roadmap in the previous version and configured cadence manually. after the upgrade it seems that all of the issues in the cadence disappear and we are unable to add issue to cadence
any idea why is that?

Hi,
Please send us the logs for analysis to support@softwareplant.com.
You can download the logs from JIRA Config (Admin) > Add-ons > BigPicture License > Troubleshooting > Applications errors > and click Download.

Is this dependency board tracking at the task level, user story level or feature level?
Marek Lewandowski
Hi,
Task level and user story level - by statuses.

I am looking at the cadence. How do I select Multiple Sprints in a single Cadence ?
Marek Lewandowski
Hi,
You need the Enterprise version of the plugin and switch to the "Large Team mode" > a new option "Manage Roadmap" will be available.

Cadence Roadmap and Agile principles ....
In general.. How many sprints do you plan in advance ? We do mostly Current + 1 or 2 future sprints and remaining things are in backlog. The roadmap is suggesting to plan everything in advance. does is go well with Agile principles ?

In SAFe, you plan 5 sprints at a time through Program Increment Planning. Then, for each Sprint Planning session, you check and adjust that plan. Roadmap is intended to support this model, from what I can tell.

If a team is executing using KanBan, No Sprints, How can I use Roadmap / cadence ?
Marek Lewandowski
Hi,
Kanban boards are not supported currently. It should be available in few months Q2 2017.
Only Scrum (To do - In progress - Done) boards until then.

Hi,
Any news about Kanban supports ? We have a custom kanban board with 5 colums in our team. I wonder if i can use bigpicture in that context.
Thanks.

Thanks for Kanban support.
On other two ..I did install enterprise licenses and trying to get to Multiple sprints to be added to a Cadence, it is not allowing.
Should I raise a support ticket, Please advise!

Hi!
Is it possible assign Epics to multiple spints and see them in this view? Normally there are many issues (at least 10+) in a sprint, which would not give the overview seen here above. Wouldn't it make sense to view the program on Epic level instead?

Hello!
I understand sync feature for "writing to" JIRA spints etc... is there any sync as "read from" the Gantt chart? I mean somthing like two buttons like:
1) try to autoassign the team: which, for all the issues not yet assigned to a team in the roadmap module, basing on the assignee, if he/she is part of one team only, assign the issue to it... a popup message with a multiple choice selection for assignee in multiple teams will be even too much
2) try to autoassign the cadence: which, for all the issue not yet assigned to a cadence in the roadmap module, basing on the start date of the Gannt chart, assign to an existing cadence that it fits in
Does it make sense?
Thanks in advance, BR
Claudio

Roadmap question, we're using enterprise version.
We create a single sprint in let's say 'the project-wide' scrum board. We have a separate scrum board for each scrum team. We use the component field to define to what team the issue belongs so that the issue only shows up in that team's scrum board/backlog etc
In Roadmap, I'm using large team sync. I have created a team for each scrum team and have assigned their scrum boards respectively.
Going into roadmap, I'm trying to select that single sprint for a certain cadence for each team. However, it only shows up for the team/board in which the sprint was created. Note that all teams assign their issues to the exact same sprint.
I understand that it would be very difficult for Roadmap to figure out that when you drag items between teams, roadmap should update the component field.
Alternative could be to create a sprint for the same period for each team under a project-wide scrum board and assign that same scrum board to each team. But we did that in the past and then got issues in the Jira reports as we like to get reports for a single sprint over multiple teams combined. And parallel sprints seem to have their own limitations.
I'm curious, how does roadmap know to which scrum board an issue belongs? the issues do not have a 'scrum board' field right?
