Perspectives to Gantt Column Views migration

Our latest Scope module was designed in response to The migration to column view was dictated by our clients' Project Management needs and with performance in mind especially to cater for the needs of Project Managers who work for performance while working with huge programs with composed of thousands of tasks to handle in a single Program - comfortably and efficiently. We have decided to implement it's benefits in the Gantt module to substitute the perspective view, comfort and flexibility to configure  data to be displayed. It extends the possibilities of viewing and managing to manage the Work Breakdown Structure of your Project(s) by directly presenting the customized view of the directly and to create customized views of aggregated data from your Jira instance.

This view was delivered with BigPicture cloud release of
and BigPicture server version 7.1

Viewing modes

Similarly to previous perspective view there are three viewing modes to choose from depending on your preference:

Basic layout for everyday work on most modern computer screens.

Good for presentations on big screens.

Shows you a bigger picture.

Column view

You can define many different sets of columns and easily switch between them. There are also predefined views with commonly used columns. Adjusting the data you want to view has never been easier. Select the "cog icon" and click the "Manage column view" option from the drop-down menu to open the settings page to add columns to your views or create new views.

Data aggregation

Presenting aggregated data and switching between different aggregation modes is scope's strongest point and makes it a go-to module for reporting based on live Jira data.

Each column header displays a configuration  "cog" icon. Clicking it opens a drop-down menu presenting aggregation options to choose from. Switching between aggregation modes for each column takes literally two clicks.

Tip: Status column with Subtask_status_categories aggregation selected always gives you a good insight into status of your Program.

Moving/drag and dropping tasks

Changing the order of tasks with drag and drop. Every change is verified on the fly with your current Synchronisation configuration. Please remember that any change directly impacts your Gantt WBS.

Text and JQL search

Quick search bar for text and JQL filtering.

Quick filters

As useful as in the previous Gantt versions Quick filters make viewing a lot clearer if you want to work with selected tasks only.

Useful for viewing how different sets of tasks in your scope influence the overall plan.

Column view configuration on WBS panel (issue details page)

Naturally, the WBS widget has also changed to reflect the new features. Similarly to Gantt module the cog icon brings up the easy configuration options to adjust the column view.

Final remarks

The column view introduces the new flexible architecture which allows for implementing new features that might not be possible with the perspective view on Gantt.

In the near future we have plans to implement features such as:

  • Comparison of different Word Breakdown Structures side by side
  • Multi select and bulk operations

and many more to come as our Team of Developers are very busy implementing the features our customers have asked for.
